Hamlin
Lake Fishing Tips
First a note from the author; Dave Mahannah of the North Bayou Resort: Over the 26 years I have fished hamlin lake, I 've seen the lake change from one year to the next, and beleive it or not sometimes from one day to the next. Depths, weeds, water clarity, temperature, barometric pressure, sunlight, wind speed and direction etc. all can vary. These changes are a result of mother nature and man.
One example, the sand dunes 20 years ago were much higher and the lake was deeper then today. Sand from the dunes has filled in part of the old river channel over the years and has even created a sunken island that is not shown on any of the lake maps. Another example, zebra musscels and a lake management plan have both been partly responsible for an increase in water clarity over the more recent years. Therefore, the tips and guidelines following are based on techniques that have worked with some variations for me and some of my customers over the years past.
It is also important to note, that each fisherman has some of his/her own special techniques and/or favorite baits to use. so apply these techniques with your personal likes in mind. Most important to remember, are the old sayings: " a bait that is not in the water will not catch fish!" and " fish have been known to jump into a boat but never a bed!" Also remember that we are in the business to serve our customers and to help them catch fish. So come to my tackle shop when you get to the lake and we will be more than happy to tell you about the techniques working currently.
